GLOBALTRANS GROUP IS AN OFFICIAL PARTNER IN “ROAD TO THE OCEAN” MOTOR RALLY DEDICATED TO THE COMPLETION OF “AMUR” FEDERAL HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION

A “Road to the Ocean” motor rally dedicated to the completion of “Amur” Federal Highway (Chita - Khabarovsk) construction was held on September 17-26 cy. This unique expedition was organized by the “Za Rulyom” magazine and supported by the RF Transport Ministry and the Federal Roads Agency (Rosavtodor).

One of the rally official partners was Globaltrans Group, a group of companies owing the largest private railcar park in the Russian railway freight transportation market.

The Amur Federal Highway is 2100 km long, covering four regions of Siberia and the Far East running in hard to reach and sparsely populated (yet) areas abounding in natural resources. The highway has been under construction since 1966 but the full-scale work commenced only in 2000’s. In 2009 the constructors completed 705 km of the road, by September this year the remaining 630 km were completed.

“In terms of resources, this highway can be compared to the Transsib and BAM. For the first time in history, we will connect the whole country with one highway”, - said Vladimir Putin, Russian Prime Minister who personally drove the whole highway in late August 2010.

The rally route covered both old and new highway sectors. The rally participants had an objective both to check the road and to evaluate its significance for the economy and safety of Russia on the whole and the region’s population in particular. The rally route covered, among other, Irkutsk, Chita, Baikalsk, Ulan-Ude, Chernyshevsk, Shimanovsk, Belogorsk, Birobijan and Khabarovsk. The participant list included journalists from federal and regional mass media and transport authorities’ representatives. Among the honored participants were Igor Levitin, RF Transport Minister, Anatoly Chabunin, Head of Federal Roads Agency (Rosavtodor), Viktor Kiryanov, Head of the Traffic Safety Department with the RF Ministry of Internal Affairs etc.

The rally participants selected cars assembled in Russia only, including those produced by foreign companies (Chevrolet, Opel, Lada, Skoda, SsangYong, FIAT).

The rally finished in Khabarovsk with a celebration dedicated to the construction completion of “Amur” Federal Highway and opening a memorial of this remarkable event. The return trip to Moscow by rail was organized by the Globaltrans Group.
